The Same City
Beyond what was mentioned above, Nueva Palmira continues to be a paradisiacal city where you can get lost in time.
The small squares and the long riverfront invite visitors to spend long hours drinking mate and watching how large cargo vessels get into the inverted T shape of the concrete pier.
From the river, the stars of the show are the large cargo vessels that have come down the large rivers or reached this area to load and transport a great amount of Latin American products. No wonder the only fruit cold-storage chamber in Uruguay, which represents almost 80% of the citric production exported to the world, has been settled at Nueva Palmira.
And though the city goes almost unnoticed in this respect, it is known that the best fruit and vegetables in the country end up here. And that is common sense for all the dwellers of this quiet but coquettish city.

Bear in mindFrom the small breakwater of the Nueva Palmira lighthouse, it is possible to appreciate the size of the port from solid ground. Dozens of watchers gather there to observe the movement of the river when these large vessels come into and leave port.
