Tours and Activities:
Open Gate
Pablo Etchevers Pablo EtcheversDue to its strategic location, this is one of the most coveted ports in the world. A few meters away, three large rivers converge and look onto the world to export national products.

What do Bolivia, Paraguay, Argentina and Brasil and, of course, Uruguay have in common?
The question may have various answers, but at Nueva Palmira everyone agrees: through this city port, all these countries can export their products. Maybe that is the reason why Nueva Palmira Port has become a tourist attraction in the last few years and has been worshipped not only by the locals but also by visitors to the city.
At present, Nueva Palmira Port lies on the spot known as Puerto Higueras and ever since the late XIX century, it has been undergoing certain transformations that have increased its size considerably. As a result of the construction of its cereal silos and the establishment of modern conveyor belts, today the city as well as Nueva Palmira port have constituted one strategic point for Mercosur (Mercado Común Sudamericano – Southern Common Market).

The Same City
Beyond what was mentioned above, Nueva Palmira continues to be a paradisiacal city where you can get lost in time.
The small squares and the long riverfront invite visitors to spend long hours drinking mate and watching how large cargo vessels get into the inverted T shape of the concrete pier.

From the river, the stars of the show are the large cargo vessels that have come down the large rivers or reached this area to load and transport a great amount of Latin American products. No wonder the only fruit cold-storage chamber in Uruguay, which represents almost 80% of the citric production exported to the world, has been settled at Nueva Palmira.
And though the city goes almost unnoticed in this respect, it is known that the best fruit and vegetables in the country end up here. And that is common sense for all the dwellers of this quiet but coquettish city.
